Geo Click: how to play

A name appears and you click the matching country, US state or capital on the map. Found places stay blue until the whole map is complete.

What is Geo Click?

Geo Click gives you a name and asks you to click the right place on a map. One menu offers five maps: World, Europe, USA, Capitals and Europe Capitals. On the first three the name is the country or state you must find. On the two capital maps you see a capital city and click the country it belongs to.

Each map is a collection to complete. A correct click turns the place blue, and it stays found. After a wrong click the right answer flashes green and that name comes back later. A stopwatch adds up the time you spend on the map, so you can finish in one sitting or across several visits.

How to play

  1. 1Open Geo Click, choose one of the five maps and press the Continue button on the next screen.
  2. 2Read the name shown at the top of the screen.
  3. 3Click or tap the place you think it is. On the capital maps, click the country that the capital belongs to.
  4. 4See the result: a correct click shows +100 and turns the place blue, while a wrong click marks your choice red and the right answer green before a different name appears.
  5. 5Carry on until every place is blue, when the results screen shows the time you took to complete the map.

Scoring

A correct click is worth 100 points and a wrong click is worth nothing. Each wrong click also adds one to the Mistakes counter (called Misclicks on the capital maps). Points and mistakes are tallies for your current session only.

What lasts is your collection and your time. There is no deadline for any single name. The stopwatch runs only while a map is open and continues from where it stopped when you return. Completing the map fixes your final time.

A missed place is not lost. It goes back into the pool, and the game picks a different name next unless it is the only one left.

Tips

  • Places that are already blue cannot be clicked, so use them as landmarks. Late in a map, the few pale shapes that remain narrow your choice a lot.
  • On the World map, look at the Caribbean zoom box in the corner. Thirteen island nations, including Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and Barbados, are far easier to hit there.
  • Very small countries are drawn as dots on the World and Europe maps. Learn where the dots for Malta, Singapore, Bahrain and the Pacific island states sit before you need them.
  • The Europe map has 49 countries because it includes Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, plus the microstates Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.
  • In the capital modes, beware of countries whose capital is not the best-known city. The list includes Canberra, Ottawa, Brasília, Ankara, Abuja, Bern, Wellington and Islamabad.

What you learn

The country and state maps train location: where each country or US state sits, what it looks like and what surrounds it. Because missed names return until you get them, the weak spots get the most practice.

Questions and answers

Is there a time limit for each name?
No. You can take as long as you like over any name. The only clock is a stopwatch that records your total time on the map.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. The places you have found and your total time are stored in your browser on that device, separately for each of the five maps.
Can I play a finished map again?
Yes. Choose Reset saved progress on the menu screen of that map and confirm. This clears the found places and the stopwatch for that map only.
Why can I not click Greenland or Antarctica?
The World map asks for countries only. Areas such as Greenland, Western Sahara and Antarctica are drawn on the map but are never asked and do not respond to clicks.
